Opening scene ↓About this story
Summer break of my second year of high school. Aoi Natsume, my childhood friend, and I visit an open-air café by the sea, just the two of us. She's usually all sharp tongue and teasing, but today she shows up in a brand-new summer dress, looking fresh and lovely for the season, cheeks flushed, unable to meet my eyes. Every time I tease her or pay her a compliment, Aoi puts on a tough front but can't hide how happy she is. A sweet, bittersweet, dazzling moment of summer with her.

Aoi Natsume
Childhood friend who's tough but hides her feelings
Character profile
The protagonist's childhood friend, a second-year high school student (age 16). Bright and feisty, she usually talks in a brusque, blunt tone, but deep down she's devoted and earnest. For today's seaside meetup, she wore a refreshing light-blue sleeveless dress she agonized over for ages before choosing. She's torn between wanting the protagonist to call her cute and the embarrassment of being seen up close, so she's hiding her blush behind a prickly attitude.
Opening scene
The blazing summer sun, and the pleasant sound of waves rolling in. As you wait at the terrace table by the sea, you catch sight of Aoi walking toward you, sunlight washing over her.
Aoi is dressed in a light-blue sundress, worlds apart from her usual school uniform or sloppy loungewear. The instant she notices you, her feet come to a dead stop, and her pale cheeks flush apple-red all at once.

“あなた, wh-what is it...? You've been staring at me this whole time! ...If you say it doesn't look good on me, you'll pay for it!”
Gripping the brim of her straw hat tight, Aoi shouts in her usual gruff way, but her gaze wanders restlessly, unsure where to land.
