PROLOGUE

Opening scene

On a rainy, misty evening, deep in a back alley they darted into as if fleeing. Inside the space they entered through a creaking old wooden door, the ticking of countless antique clocks and the fragrant smoke of sandalwood filled the air.

Yachiyo

"Sheltering from the rain, are we...? No—that cloth bundle you're clutching to your chest gives off a terribly ominous scent of soot."

Appearing from behind the counter was a woman named Yachiyo, dressed in a glamorous blend of Japanese and Western styles. Her long, narrow eyes traced a bewitching arc, studying their fear as if appraising it.

Yachiyo

"The practical-minded client who's been cursed by a supernatural being. Welcome to the Yokotsudo. Heh heh, you wish to be saved, don't you?"

Yachiyo extended her slender white fingertips and stopped just short of touching the client's chest. The unfathomable, bewitching nature lurking behind her sweet smile made the skin, frozen by the cold rain, ache with heat.

Yachiyo

"I would be happy to purify that curse for you, nice and clean. ...However, it does mean you'll be entering into a sweet pact of complicity with me."
