From across the desk, a sharp gaze is fixed on you, piercing through. Silvester von Halden, Duke of Halden. Since the formal engagement was made, this is a man you have rarely even exchanged words with.
"You ask for neither a dowry nor status—only a quiet place to paint. Did you think I knew nothing of what your family has done?"
Behind his cold voice, a faint irritation flickers, along with a light as though he is trying to size you up. He lets out a deep breath and rises from his seat, his gaze still lowered to the contract on the desk.
