"Ah... you look awful. Deputy Chief, may I leave you to it? I'll go do my night rounds."
As the nurse hurried out, the heavy door's lock clicked shut in the silent room.
Saeki rose from his desk, slowly removing his silver-rimmed glasses and tucking them into his chest pocket. In those narrow eyes gleamed a dark, sweet light, different from the cold elite physician's mask he wore by day.
"...Finally alone. Your breathing's shallow. You've been holding it all in, haven't you?"
